Da Vinci natural bamboo cutting boards are made of eco-friendly renewable natural bamboo offering a durable and attractive cutting surface for all your kitchen applications. No dyes or stains are used in this cutting board so the natural bamboo color will not fade or wash out. Please note that this board is 0.7" or 11/16" thick, whereas most other bamboo cutting boards are only 3/8" thick. There are 2 methods of cutting bamboo for manufacturing a cutting board: Horizontal cut or vertical cut. Once cut, the pieces are then pressed together to make a solid board. The boards that are made of vertically cut bamboo are much stronger and more durable than horizontally cut boards. All boards that are only 3/8" thick are made with horizontally cut bamboo, hence, they are cheaper. Horizontally cut bamboo can not be used to make thicker boards like our 0.7" thick board. The extra 0.7" (11/16") thick Da Vinci cutting boards are made with vertically cut bamboo making them considerably more durable than the competition. 2-Piece set: A 15.7"x11.8" board with handle, and an 11.8"x7.9" board.

These are very nice cutting boards, finished well and even after three months of frequent use, it has held up very well. Smaller board is good for cutting up smaller veggies, where as the larger one is perfect for cutting up pineapples and such. These boards are hand washed, cuts on the board are very shallow and does not keep debris. I do wipe down the boards with coconut oil to keep them seasoned.
I would highly recommend. Wood is dense and should hold up well over the years of using sharp knives. Works well with my Wusthof knives.

These cutting boards look very nice and have a nice feel to them. However, the smaller of the two boards in the set I received had a defect. There was a separation between two of the dark colored sections. I was tempted to call it a crack, but the two sections just weren't physically joined, but merely held in place by the lighter colored end pieces. This is a place where food and oils can become trapped and create breeding ground for bacteria. I suppose it would also be a weak spot in the board, if in fact you were willing to use it. I thought about sending it back, but didn't want the hassle for a cheap item, so I just sealed it with epoxy on both sides, gave it a light sanding and while not perfect, at least serviceable. It's sealed anyway. I put out a wheel of cheese on this board and no one at the table noticed it. So I guess it's OK, but you shouldn't have to essentially re-manufacture someone Else's product to make it fit for its intended use. I'm going to assume its a quality control issue, assuming they have quality control.
