This is another 'You get what you pay for' sort of review. End grain cutting boards are more expensive to produce. That this uses non-endangered wood and is made in the U.S. makes this a very good value. End grain cutting boards are supposedly better for your knives as you cut into the fiber ends and split them, not directly into and across the fibers themselves (which will cause more visual slicing in the wood).But, you get what you pay for here, as the finishing is sort of mediocre. You can feel, ever so slightly though, the lines where the wood has been glued together. It has not been sanded down so much that it is as completely smooth as a baby's behind. Furthermore, the edges on this board, whether it be at the sides or where the board is beveled out for the juice channel, also have fairly sharp edges. A better finished board would have really smoothed and rounded out those edges.This seems like a really good, relatively inexpensive board for the home, but I wouldn't give it as a housewarming gift. The lack of great finishing keeps this from being an elegant board, in spite of some of the visually interesting pieces used. By the way, compared to the photo on this page, I'd say that the pieces used in the board in my possession are smaller and therefore there also more of them. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? More glue joints for sure.

Heavy, so it stays in place well. The end grain makes it a definite step up from my previous board, which was just strips of wood glued together.

This board replaces an old cracked edge grain board that I have had for decades. I just couldn't see spending over $100 for a cutting board, but I wanted edge grain to keep my knives sharp, so I spent $26.58 on this one. So glad Boos has competition. (Made in America) OWSFollow up one month later; the board is cracked and warped. It is still usable and my knives are staying sharp. The crack from the outside edge hasn't reached the groove yet and the flex in the board changes directions as I turn the board over. It should be twice as thick. I guess there is no way out of spending the big bucks for quality.
