Madeira specializes in crafting the most exotic wood on earth and creating individual works of art for the kitchen. Translated to mean "wood" in Portuguese, the native language of Brazil where our products originate, Madeira uses only the highest quality raw materials. Our Teak line of cutting boards originates from one of the largest Teak Plantations in the world, located in South America. Plantation Teak means it is farmed using responsible forestry practices. We use remnants left over from other Teak products typically discarded during the manufacturing process. Madeira products almost completely eliminate any potential waste of materials, making our line of cutting boards "agricultural by-products". Madeira offers beautiful, affordable solutions for every kitchen, on every budget.

Customer Reviews

I'm very happy with this cutting board.
We've been using plastic cutting boards forever, because my wife had the incorrect assumption that they are more sterile than wood cutting boards. I decided to check that out, and found solid studies indicating that wood cutting boards actually collect less bacteria than plastic boards that have some use on them. After plastic boards get a lot of cuts in them, it is much more difficult to get them completely sanitized. Wood cutting boards tend to draw the bacteria into the interior of the board thru capillary action, where the bacteria quickly expires. Wash them with a solution including vinegar or 10% bleach. Do not soak them in soapy water!
To prepare this board, you need some mineral oil, which you can find in the pharmacy section of your grocery store. Wipe it down with mineral oil daily for the first week you own it, then weekly after that.
The first time I used this board I enjoyed two benefits over using a plastic board. First, the knife has an easier time penetrating the wood, and so it is easier when chopping certain vegetables to get a clean cut all the way through. Second, the wood doesn't impact the surface of the knife as much as the plastic does. So when I cleaned my knife and ran it over the sharpening steel before putting it away, I could tell immediately that the blade was in better shape than when I've used the plastic boards.
This particular board is large enough to prepare and pile up several vegetables at one time. Since you should always use separate cutting boards for vegetables than meat, vegetables is what I'll use this one for. I also have a set of bamboo boards in smaller sizes, one of which I use for beef and fish, and one for chicken.
While the grooves around this board won't be needed to capture meat juices with my usage of it, it also does a great job of catching small pieces of vegetable when you dice them, such as for mincing garlic.
This board is a good bit more expensive than bamboo boards, but I got it particularly for its outstanding appearance and its larger than normal size. It will be a good "show piece" when guests arrive early and I'm still preparing the food for a dinner.

I was very happy with this cutting board. Purchased as a gift, and a welcome one at that. Pleasant medium to dark tonal color to the wood, ample cutting space and the reverse side is completely smooth for those that don't like (or need) the juice groove. Hopefully it will stand up for a long time to come.
